27/08/2008: Audi develops GT3 race version of the R8

For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ.

"The R8 is the first production Audi bearing the name and genes of a successful racing sportscar and is therefore an excellent base from which to build up our first big customer sport programme," explains Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. "Ever since the R8 was unveiled we’ve been inundated with enquiries about a race version. With the Audi R8 we will offer customers a racing sportscar equipped with high-calibre technology and the typical Audi qualities, but which is nevertheless easy to handle."

The Audi R8 conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations allowing the car to be fielded in numerous national and international race series.

Is it difficult to prepare for races and organise your schedule?R: Yes, is physically and mentally very tiring and I need to schedule my flights to Europe together with my business meetings in order to maximize my stay in Europe. My ideal schedule is to fly to Europe on Monday so that Tuesday and Wednesday I can meet clients while I try to overcome my jet lag and Thursday I fly or drive to the race venues, usually It takes more than a few days to recover from the jet lag therefore when we have sessions or races in the late afternoon I tend to be quite sleepy!   read more
19/08/2008: Balbiani with Brazilian Ricci for the last three meetings

Argentine driver José Manuel Balbiani is planning to share the Kessel Racing Ferrari GT3 with brazilian ace Claudio “Cacau” Ricci for the final three races of the FIA GT3 European Championship season. Ricci is currently best Ferrari driver in the Brazilian GT3 Championship.

Balbiani says: “ I'm really excited about this chance of driving with Claudio, not only because he knows the car extremely well and will help me fight for the title, but also because he will have the chance to show the excellence of Brazilian GT3 drivers.

It means a great effort for us to travel more than 14 hours to get to every race. Airports, planes and the long trip are quite exhausting, but at the end of the day this makes us stronger and more anxious to sit behind the steering wheel. Some disadvantages can become profits if we want to make it this way”.

José Manuel adds: “ I have to thank Kessel Racing Team because they are also making a great effort in placing Ricci and myself together, so as to pursue the best results in the Championship.”

Second in race 2

I started from pole, but I was struggling to get heat into my tyres. Once they were up to temperature the car was fantastic – I set fastest lap of the race, so I’m happy with that. At one stage I ran wide because of oil on the track, which was a shame, but there was no real damage done. Racing in both GT and GT3 helps me, because I don’t have that much experience, so every time I can get behind the wheel is good
